Young Sheldon Writers Called Out for Ignoring Missy
It seems that Sheldon's twin sister often remains in the shadow of her brilliant brother, and fans are not happy about this.
The CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory changed all subsequent comedy shows, making it clear that even the strangest characters can become recognizable and beloved by the public.
So when the network announced a spin-off about the young years of the show's most popular character, Sheldon Cooper, fans were overjoyed — Young Sheldon also turned out to be a wonderful series, filled with great humor and excellent character development, and viewers were particularly thrilled to finally learn more about Sheldon's parents and siblings.
While Sheldon himself is a rather likable character in the new series, his storylines often overshadowed those of the other characters — and at first, viewers were just fine with that.
But as the writers developed Sheldon's brother Georgie and his sister Missy into interesting characters, seeing them sidelined for Sheldon's sake was quite painful to many.
Fans argue that both characters were fascinating in their own unique ways — Georgie was a business-obsessed teenager, and Missy displayed street smarts unmatched by her brothers — and that is why spending so much time with Sheldon, rather than his siblings, felt like a chore to many viewers.
While Georgie does get his share of attention, especially in the latter seasons, Missy is still relegated to the background — however, viewers agree that she is now in a better position compared to the earlier seasons. We remember that, in season two, Missy actually told her parents that they didn't care for her as much as they did about Sheldon, causing them to reconsider their attitude towards their daughter.
Fortunately, Missy has become more involved in the narrative since then — but apparently, this still isn't enough for fans, who would like the writers to further explore Missy's character and develop her storylines.
A huge part of the community is suggesting that CBS should produce a new series centered on Missy and Georgie after the end of Young Sheldon.
Some fans even admit that they feel tired with Sheldon as the protagonist, so focusing another spin-off on his siblings would be a welcome outlet for many.
