Young Sheldon Season 7 Hangs in the Balance Amid Actors Strike
The show's future is clouded by the biggest Hollywood standoff.
As the WGA-SAG-AFTRA strike shows no signs of stopping, all fans and industry professionals are troubled by the ramifications that will ensue. In light of this historic event that has brought together thousands of writers and actors in the fight for better pay and working conditions, many projects are threatened to be postponed indefinitely until a resolution is found.
In other words, dozens of beloved TV shows might not be renewed this year, and CBS' Young Sheldon is likely to be one of them.
The popular prequel to The Big Bang Theory has spanned six seasons so far and won over millions of viewers all over the world — many, in fact, claim it is superior to its parent show in terms of humor. Season 7 that was supposed to wrap up the show might not be released this fall after all.
The Young Sheldon cast joined their colleagues from the writers department back in May when it was solely a WGA strike. Lance Barber, Zoe Perry, and Raegan Revord were seen in the forefront of the manifestations, and lead actor Iain Armitage expressed his support for the writers on his Instagram page.
Now, as the actors' guild is officially rallying, its member-actors are prohibited from taking part in either filming or promoting their projects.
Although CBS was hopeful that the conflict would be resolved and everyone would get back to work shortly after the strike began, the future of the network's most popular sitcom is now unclear. Set to premiere in late September, it is now postponed indefinitely since filming cannot be carried out amid the strike.
On the bright side, there's still enough time for the conflict to be resolved and the production of Season 7 to start to deliver Young Sheldon's final installment just on time. But in case the strike continues, it will have a devastating effect on the show, as it'll have to drop mid-season and, consequently, be shortened significantly.
Moreover, CBS cannot reschedule Young Sheldon's seventh season for next year as the young actors — Armitage and Revord — are rapidly hitting their teens and may not be suited to play their characters convincingly in the new season. For instance, you can already notice how tall Iain was in Season 6 compared to the fifth one.
Hopefully, the parties will reach a fair deal in no time and we'll be able to see our beloved sitcom return to the small screen for one last time.
