Young Sheldon Season 7 Hangs in the Balance After CBS Update
The upcoming installment of Young Sheldon is at risk due to the WGA strike.
It's been almost a month since the two-part finale of Young Sheldon Season 6 aired on CBS. The highly anticipated final episodes had been the major topic of fan discussions for months, and they certainly proved to be worth waiting for, rekindling viewers' excitement for the seventh season.
The Season 6 finale was eventful, to say the least. Sheldon and Mary departed for Germany where the young genius is meant to attend summer courses. Mandy proposed to Georgie, and the two finally confirmed their engagement. Pastor Jeff found out about Meemaw's gambling den, and George Sr. and Missy weathered a tornado that destroyed Constance's house. Obviously, there are now a lot of storylines waiting to be developed in the upcoming chapter of Young Sheldon.
CBS renewed the show for a seventh season back in 2021, so now fans are eagerly waiting for the next Young Sheldon season to start filming. However, it looks like the new season is threatened to be postponed indefinitely due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike.
This is evidenced by CBS' recent update for the fall timetable. The network's CEO George Cheeks introduced a 'strike-proof' programming schedule that places Paramount+ original shows instead of CBS' usual projects such as Young Sheldon.
When the 2023 writers' strike broke out in May, CBS put Young Sheldon's seventh season on the schedule, apparently hoping that the conflict would have been resolved by the time filming starts. But as no agreement has been reached yet and most of the Young Sheldon crew have joined the strike, Season 7 is at risk of having its release date pushed back.
In addition to that, the new installment of Young Sheldon may be cut short, as the producers would likely want to wrap up production and premiere the new episodes as soon as they can. There are still many important storylines to explore in Season 7, and given that it may be the series' final installment, the writers will need to squeeze a lot of events in those few episodes, including Mandy and Georgie's wedding and George's untimely death.
Anyway, it's too early to raise the alarm, as the WGA strike may be resolved sooner than expected, so the beloved show can return to production and release its seventh season as per the original schedule.
