In the most recent season of Young Sheldon, Missy's decision to leave home could have significant consequences for the Cooper family.

However, this twist could also solve a major plot hole in TBBT that has bothered fans since the series began.

Although Young Sheldon has largely stayed true to its predecessor, fans have noticed that the characters in the series do not always match their counterparts from the original show. For example, Sheldon's mother, Mary, is less bitter, and his father is nothing like the philandering alcoholic he was described as by Sheldon.

But the most significant change is in the character of Meemaw.

When Meemaw first appeared in TBBT, she was portrayed as an older version of Sheldon's strict, conservative mother Mary.

But in Young Sheldon, Meemaw is a rebellious and fearless character who refuses to settle down despite her advancing age. This drastic transformation has left fans wondering how the character changed so much between the two shows. However, there may be a logical explanation for this discrepancy after all.

At the end of Young Sheldon season 6, Missy runs away from home in an act of teenage rebellion. However, according to a fan theory, this could be the very reason for Meemaw's change in demeanor. During the season, Missy is employed at Meemaw's video store, which doubles as an illegal gambling room.

Her engagement in Meemaw's illicit activities could have been what persuaded her to disobey the rules as well and run away.

Throughout Young Sheldon, Meemaw has remained a rebellious figure in her grandchildren's lives. Therefore Missy's decision to suddenly leave home could have been what made Meemaw realize that she needed to change her ways and how she inadvertently influences the people she cares about.

Prompting Meemaw to become the stricter figure we know her to be in TBBT. As well as validating the change in her attitude toward risk-taking. Eventually, becoming more like her daughter Mary after Missy's rebellion.

Meemaw's drastic change in behavior between the two shows has puzzled fans for some time. However, Missy's most recent storyline in season 6 may finally provide a plausible explanation for one of TBBT's biggest plot holes. In a show that is already synonymous with canon discrepancies, this is definitely a positive change.
