There are a couple of possible ways the show could approach them.

Summary

  • Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik are set to reprise their iconic roles in the finale of Young Sheldon.
  • Amy and Sheldon have talked about their family life on several occasions on the spin-off.
  • It's obvious that Sheldon has been recording his narration.

The 2023 strikes affected many beloved shows, but their impact on CBS' flagship sitcom Young Sheldon was perhaps the most obvious, as the comedy did not return for its seventh and final season last fall. Fortunately, YS is now back on the air with Season 7, which is set to have only fourteen episodes as opposed to the show's usual twenty-something.

Premiering almost a month ago, Season 7 quickly proved why Young Sheldon is the most popular sitcom on CBS, as nearly eight million viewers are said to have watched the first episode. Now that four episodes have aired, the end of the show is approaching, which many fans are dreading but also looking forward to thanks to the news that Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik, who played Sheldon and Amy respectively on TBBT, will be reprising their roles in the finale. But since Season 7 of YS is set in the 1990s, how is that possible?

Amy and Sheldon's Current Family Life

Jim Parsons narrates Young Sheldon, which makes the entire show a collection of his recollections of his childhood in Texas. Given Dr. Cooper's amazing memory, it's no surprise that the remembrances are so nuanced and detailed. But he's not the only TBBT character to make offscreen appearances in the spin-off.

During Young Sheldon's seven-season run, Mayim Bialik made two voiceover appearances on the show. In seasons 4 and 5, Amy and Sheldon talked about their family life, from which we learned that they have several children, one of whom is named Leonard, argue about money as Amy is strict about Sheldon's comic book spending, and have some tension due to a lack of physical intimacy.

Perhaps the Young Sheldon finale could take us into Amy and Sheldon's current family life and show them and their children having dinner together and chatting over it, as the Coopers do on the spin-off.

End of the Recording

Since Sheldon narrates the spin-off, it might as well be a memoir recording he makes in a studio. For example, in Episode 16 Season 5, which features Amy, she and Sheldon talk about the reasons for the problems many families have. At one point, Amy says that she will explain something to Sheldon when there are no microphones in front of them, meaning that they are recording something.

In this light, the Season 7 finale could take us to the recording studio where Sheldon is finishing his audio memoir while Amy waits for him to say the last word. Maybe even some other TBBT characters will be there to see Dr. Cooper finish the story. If only Mary could be there to tell Sheldon that his father never cheated on her. But that's a story for another time...

Episode 5 Season 7 is scheduled to air on 14th March.

Which way do you think the cameos will happen?
