The show isn't the same, they say

It's been slightly over a month since the one-hour finale of Young Sheldon Season 6 saw the light of day, and fans are still discussing the latest developments in The Big Bang Theory prequel and the direction it's heading. Unlike many other spin-off series, Young Sheldon has received an even better critical response than the popular parent show, becoming a beloved family comedy for viewers of different ages and backgrounds.

However, some fans say that the previous sixth installment saw a painful drop in quality, and this mostly has to do with the characters and humor they generate.

'Sturgis was a nice and quirky character but they went overboard with it. In Episode 3 or 4 of Season 6, they show Sturgis, Sheldon, and [Dr. Linkletter] go completely nuts over the non-existence of 0 in a way that is just utterly unbelievable,' one Redditor complained. 'There is no good humor there, just them throwing up in a bucket.'

Another thing that is bothering viewers is how Ian Armitage's Sheldon has grown into an obnoxiously rude teenager whose one-liners come across as mere insults at this point. Of course, no one is accusing the actor or his character of growing older — that was a natural and expected change — but the way the writers handled this transformation made the sitcom lose much of its original charm, unfortunately.

'They ran out of smart little kid jokes, and the show had no direction. So they invented all the threads about the relatives that don't involve Sheldon at all. I only watch it for the occasional smart people jokes — and for the story of Paige, the only person in the BBT universe smarter than Sheldon and the most interesting character on the show,' another fan shared on Reddit.

Despite these complaints, Young Sheldon is still an enjoyable show, and millions of fans are eagerly anticipating the seventh installment to come out in the fall of this year. Although the release date may change with the ongoing WGA strike, CBS still plans to air the upcoming season as per schedule.
