Feel old and gasp at how quickly time flies!

We often have a strange tendency to view TV show characters as never-changing and devoid of any life outside the show. This is especially evident when it comes to such long-running series as The Young and the Restless.

It's understandable, seeing how this particular soap opera has been on the air since 1973, with more than 12,500 episodes released so far (take your time if you need some to process that).

However, there are very real people behind every character who have lives—ordinary but exciting ones, just like the rest of us.

Sophie Pollono portrayed Delia Abbott on Y&R. Her character was introduced in 2009 when she was born into the show. Several child actresses played Delia for some time, but her image was finalised in 2011 when the role was given to Pollono.

Sophie appeared on the soap opera as a distinctly older version of DeDe who developed leukaemia, a disease she battled for the next couple of years until her character was tragically killed off in 2013. Nonetheless, Pollono made numerous appearances on the show through several consecutive years as a ghostly apparition of her late character. At the same time, she had a pretty normal life off-set.

You'll be rightly amazed to learn that the innocent-looking child you see on Y&R is already eighteen. The actress has changed so drastically in the past ten years that you would barely recognise her if you haven't seen her most recent appearances on the show.

Besides, you may have seen her in a couple of other projects since Delia Abbott. Specifically, Sophie Pollono had an eight-episode role on Disney's Fast Layne.

Apart from that, Sophie's life is not unlike any other typical teenager's. With a keen interest in musical theatre, the actress enrolled in the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama last fall. This only goes to show that Sophie is just like the rest of us, embarking on a new journey in her life as time goes by. Good luck!
