Which movies could get Oscar nominations next year?
It has only been two months since the 95th annual Academy Awards, which celebrated films released in 2022, and the date for the next significant movie event of the year has already been announced. The 96th Oscars are scheduled for 10 March 2024.
As per tradition, the nominations will be revealed in January, and any film released between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2023, will be eligible for the most coveted cinematography award.
While we cannot guarantee which films will be nominated for the 2024 Oscars, there are already several strong contenders that have emerged. Here are seven films released in the first few months of 2023 that definitely have what it takes to at least get nominated for the Academy Award, ranked by their Rotten Tomatoes critics' scores.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (47%)
This film, which marked the beginning of Phase Five of the MCU and introduced the new antagonist Kang the Conqueror, received mixed reviews from critics but garnered high praise from audiences for its performances, visual effects, and musical score.

Beau Is Afraid (68%)
Ari Aster's tragicomedy follows Joaquin Phoenix's character, Beau Wassermann, on a surreal journey to his mother's funeral, on which he confronts his fears. Like Aster's previous works, Beau Is Afraid offers beautiful cinematography and has garnered positive feedback from critics.

Creed III (88%)

Kelly Reichardt's indie film about an artist who finds inspiration amidst the chaos of her life on the eve of a career-defining exhibition stars two Oscar favourites, Michelle Williams and Hong Chau. It has received rave reviews from critics.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (91%)
Based on the popular role-playing tabletop game, this fantasy heist comedy has proven to be a hit with both audiences and critics, positioning it as a strong contender for next year's Oscars.

Air (92%)
