Yellowstone Season 5's Key Story Won't Center on John Dutton After All
Fans want to see other characters take center stage.
The hugely popular neo-Western series Yellowstone was recently announced to be ending after the second batch of Season 5 episodes. The untimely wrap-up is most likely caused by the conflict between the show's creator Taylor Sheridan and lead star Kevin Costner, who is now focused on his own Western film series, Horizon.
Costner will return as John Dutton for the remaining episodes of Season 5, but that doesn't mean his story will be the main focus of the Yellowstone finale.
While John is an incredibly charismatic character, fans have been complaining for a while now that his storyline had become stale by Season 3. Taylor Sheridan's attempts to make it exciting again by making John the governor of Montana proved futile — it looks that people are simply not interested in following the Yellowstone patriarch anymore.
Instead, fans are more invested in the lives of John's children, especially the feud between Beth and Jamie, as the siblings' quest to hurt each other is sure to end with a lot of blood in the remaining episodes of the show. But the focus of Season 5 Part 2 will most likely be not on Jamie, but on Beth and her husband Rip.
Given that Rip and Beth are newlyweds, viewers expect a lot of issues between them to come up in the finale. Rip is loyal while Beth is notoriously stubborn, so it's going to be a pretty ugly fight.
However, fans are still sure that Rip and Beth will resolve their differences and start building their home and family in the coming episodes, proving that even Duttons can live a peaceful and harmless life.
The story that started with John Dutton at its center has obviously changed over the years, making the secondary characters more exciting to follow. So, it's only natural that Rip and Beth will take over the remaining episodes of the hit show, as their storyline is set to have many more twists and turns than the family patriarch's.
Unfortunately, it looks like the ongoing strikes have forced Paramount+ to delay the premiere of Season 5 Part 2, so we may not see the new episodes come out in November 2023.
