Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 Might Get Additional Episodes, Says Taylor Sheridan
Sheridan might decide to extend the show for another season after all.
With the ongoing news of Kevin Costner's never-ending scheduling conflicts and the WGA strikes, Yellowstone fans are still in limbo regarding the future of the series. Many openly fear these complications will lead to an unsatisfying ending that will fail to properly wrap up all the story arcs.
But there is good news, partners! According to Taylor Sheridan, Yellowstone may get some extra episodes if the plot demands it.
In February 2022, it was announced that Season 5 would consist of fourteen instalments, divided into two parts. The first eight episodes ran from November 2022 to January 2023, and the remaining six were scheduled for November of this year.
Despite some of the highest ratings in the show's history, Kevin Costner, who headlines the show as John Dutton, seems to have lost interest in it and wants to concentrate on his own Western project, Horizon, so the writing's on the wall for Yellowstone.
However, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Taylor Sheridan, the real-life Texas cowboy-turned-successful filmmaker, revealed that, given the popularity of the franchise and the original series in particular, he might choose to make additional episodes for the finale, and he can do that under the terms of the contract he has with Paramount.
'If I think it takes 10 episodes to wrap it up, they'll give me 10,' he said confidently. 'It'll be as long as it needs to be.'
According to him, the number of episodes depends only on his vision and where he thinks the story of the Dutton family should go. So we may very well get more episodes to make up for the long wait for the finale.
Who knows, maybe John Dutton will meet a tragic but romantic end when the show concludes, in the vein of classic westerns, and Sheridan himself will decide to continue the series, focusing on Dutton's surviving offspring? That is all speculation, although we know Yellowstone will be followed by an as-yet-untitled spin-off, possibly starring Matthew McConaughey.
As for Season 5 Part 2 of Yellowstone, the release date is still unknown as Taylor Sheridan has not yet finished the script, participating in the WGA strike, and filming is not scheduled to start until August. We should expect a release late this year or even later.
