Yellowstone's Kelly Reilly Has a Grim Warning for Beth & Rip Fans
What's in store for Beth and Rip?
With the conclusion of the WGA-backed writers' strike, all that remains is for the AMPTP, the organization representing the major studios, to finally meet the crucial demands of the SAG-AFTRA-affiliated actors. The outcome of the negotiations that began today, October 2, will determine whether the strike will end soon. However, the dispute's resolution is simply a matter of time, meaning that several popular television projects will be back on track shortly.
One of these is Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone. Many fans were disheartened by the exit of the franchise's main face, Kevin Costner, who played John Dutton. However, it's undeniable that the Dutton family patriarch's storyline has been far less engaging in recent seasons than the arcs of his children. Specifically, many fans are anxious about the fate of Beth and her husband, Rip, and it turns out that the actor behind Beth, Kelly Reilly, shares this concern.
Rip and Beth's Story So Far
There are still numerous skeletons in Rip and Beth's closets. The couple, especially Beth, never found the time to reveal them, and now Rip has gone south on a cattle drive, leaving Beth in Montana, assisting her father with his political shenanigans while scheming against Jamie. In other words, we're going to be seeing a lot of tension in the final episodes as Beth tries to decide whether she can disclose all her secrets to Rip.
Consumed by Traumatic Past
Beth's biggest secret, the one she hides from Rip for fear it can end their marriage, is the fact that Jamie forced Beth to undergo involuntary sterilization when she was a girl. Combined with the complexes and fears instigated by her mother's words before her death, Beth believes she is unworthy of Rip and that if the truth comes out, she will lose her lover.
'Beth is haunted by her past,' Reilly shared (via Parade) in a behind-the-scenes featurette, available on Season 5 Part 1 Blu-ray. 'She has a lot of regrets, and she has a lot of secrets that he doesn't know. So there is something that is under the surface that will one day, I'm sure, come, and she's probably certain that she will lose him.'
Despite Beth's disdain for her stepbrother, Rip is a friend of Jamie's. However, he's also loyal to his wife, so if he discovers a terrible secret, he might do something terrible, and Beth will get him to take the blame for it. Moreover, that same secret could become a hurdle that she believes will shatter their marriage.
We will see how their relationship evolves in Season 5, Part 2, which is yet to start filming.
