From the ring to the Highlands, WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre joins the Highlander reboot as the brother to Henry Cavill's character.

Well, this just got interesting. WWE superstar Drew McIntyre is stepping into the Highlander reboot, and he is not just swinging a sword in the background. He is playing Angus MacLeod, brother to Henry Cavill's lead character. Great casting energy there, and it actually fits the franchise world they are building. The timetable, though? That is another story.

The cast so far

  • Henry Cavill as Connor MacLeod, a Medieval Scottish Highlander who discovers he is immortal
  • Drew McIntyre as Angus MacLeod, Connor's brother
  • Russell Crowe as Ramirez, the master swordsman who trains Connor
  • Dave Bautista as The Kurgan, the big bad
  • Karen Gillan as Connor's Scottish wife
  • Marisa Abela as Connor's modern-day love interest
  • Djimon Hounsou as an immortal warrior from Africa

The basic setup is the Highlander you know: immortals battling across centuries, with Ramirez showing Connor the ropes and The Kurgan bringing the chaos. But the plan here is bigger than a nostalgia play. Screenwriter Michael Finch is reportedly expanding the mythology, adding more immortals from all over the world. Translation: they want a real franchise, not just a one-off duel in the mist.

Inside baseball alert: production was gearing up to start soon, but Cavill got injured while training for the film. Because of that, cameras likely will not roll until early 2026. When it does finally move, they are set to shoot in Scotland, England, and Hong Kong. That travel itinerary screams: we are building a global epic.

On the action front, Bautista is already setting expectations sky-high, comparing the set pieces to the gold standard of modern stunt work.

The action is on par with John Wick... We are paying tribute to the original, but it is bigger, new, and universe-building. If you saw the original, you still will not know what the story is.

Also worth noting: McIntyre and Bautista just crossed paths on the big screen. Outside of WWE, McIntyre most recently popped up in The Killer's Game, which starred Bautista as a hitman who is told he has a terminal illness. So there is already some shared on-set DNA heading into this.

Bottom line: killer ensemble, ambitious world-building, and legitimately spicy action promises. Now we just wait for Cavill to heal up, the swords to get sharpened, and production to finally swing into motion in 2026.
