Writing This Character Off Was One of TBBT's Biggest Mistakes
Fans are still confused why this character was written off.
Even though The Big Bang Theory is still considered one of the most iconic sitcoms in the history of a genre, that doesn't mean that the show hasn't had its fair share of problems over the years, the most pressing of which was how reluctant the writers were to develop the main cast of characters.
Don't get us wrong, Sheldon and company were expertly taken care of by the writers, but at some point their lack of real development began to turn the show into a total snooze fest.
After realizing their mistakes, the writers introduced romantic interests for Sheldon and Howard, and Amy and Bernadette quickly became fan-favorite characters on the show. Raj's character development, however, remained rather dull until the very end of the show, although he did have a rather interesting romantic interest at one point - Emily Sweeney.
Gone too soon
The redheaded dermatologist, played by Laura Spencer, joined the show in Season 7, and fans were certain that she and Raj would be the endgame in the show's final seasons. However, Emily was written out of the show in Season 10, leaving Raj completely alone and without any meaningful development. But why was the actress fired?
While the specifics of the situation are unknown to the public, fans are sure that Spencer was not too thrilled with the lack of attention her character was getting, and after the producers once again refused to offer her more screen time and more money, she decided to choose the Bones as her main project, as she had already been splitting her time between two shows for a couple of years.
As a result, her character in Bones became much more prominent, earning the actress a lot of praise and money, while the TBBT fandom was really hurt to see Emily go, as her presence in the show made Raj's storyline exciting for the first time since the pilot episode.
A huge missed opportunity for TBBT, and a huge win for Bones and Spencer herself.
