Will There Be a Parent Trap Sequel? Lisa Ann Walter Has a Hilarious Idea for It
The actress wants to add some drama to the characters' fates.
Summary
- The Parent Trap is one of the most popular movies of all time.
- There has been no news of a movie's reboot.
- The Parent Trap still affects Lisa Ann Walter's life.
- The actress has a dark but amusing idea for a sequel to the movie.
Although superhero movies rake in billions of dollars at the box office, they aren't as beloved by audiences as simple stories that premiered decades ago. For example, Lindsay Lohan's Freaky Friday and The Parent Trap, released in 1998 and 2003 respectively, have developed a real cult following over the years despite their lack of impressive CGI and exciting action.
Naturally, generations of viewers have been clamoring for sequels to these beloved films. But while a Freaky Friday revival is officially in the works at Disney, there has been no news of a reboot of The Parent Trap. Fortunately, one of the film's stars, Lisa Ann Walter, who portrayed fan-favorite nanny/housekeeper Chessy, has her own very amusing idea for a sequel.
The Parent Trap's Influence
It's been almost twenty-six years since The Parent Trap premiered, and a lot has changed since then. Lindsay Lohan, who played both Hallie and Annie in the movie, has grown up and has a child of her own, a baby boy born in July 2023. Natasha Richardson, who played the girls' mother, has sadly passed away. And Lisa Ann Walter is currently starring in ABC's Emmy-winning comedy Abbott Elementary. But the actress would love to reprise her iconic role if there were a sequel.
'The reboot of The Parent Trap is up to [director] Nancy Meyers and Disney, but if they have a part for me, I will be there,' Lisa Ann Walter shared during a recent interview.
The actress says she feels 'lucky' to have been a part of a movie that continues to resonate with audiences decades after its premiere. Admittedly, Lisa Ann Walter sees many perks to starring in The Parent Trap – she's a popular customer everywhere she goes, as waitresses and shop assistants reverently recognize her as Chessy.
An Unexpected Turn of Events
With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that the actress would love to reprise the role. And she even has an idea for the sequel, which involves bringing back and redeeming The Parent Trap's antagonist, Meredith Blake.
'We kind of got rid of the mean Meredith character in The Parent Trap, but she's my best friend in real life,' Lisa Ann Walter said of Elaine Hendrix who played the character. 'So, if they do [make a sequel], I want her to be down on her luck, living under a bridge somewhere, and then we become friends.'
It would be hilarious to see Meredith living on the streets. But more importantly, it would be heartwarming to see Lisa Ann Walter and Elaine Hendrix draw on their real-life friendship to recreate it between their iconic characters.
