Will The Kingdoms of Ruin Season 2 Happen? Renewal Odds and the Manga Arcs It Could Adapt
Fans have waited since the December 2023 finale for The Kingdoms of Ruin season 2, but with the studio silent and lukewarm reception weighing it down, the return fans want may never materialize—unless a surprise renewal changes everything.
Fans have been waiting on The Kingdoms of Ruin season 2 since season 1 wrapped back in December 2023. Nearly two years later, it is radio silence. So, here is where things actually stand, why a renewal feels unlikely right now, and what the story is setting up if the anime ever comes back.
Quick status check
- No renewal: There has been no season 2 announcement from the studio (Yokohama Animation) or from the manga side. Nothing.
- Plenty left to adapt: Season 1 only made it through chapter 33, which is volumes 1–6 and about half of volume 7 in the manga. The finale stops mid-arc, which makes it look like a sequel was at least considered.
- Reception hurt the odds: The show sits around a 6.2/10 on IMDb and 6.22/10 on MyAnimeList. A lot of viewers bounced off the generic lead, constant ultraviolence, and a revenge loop that felt repetitive after a strong first three episodes. If producers were watching the numbers, that probably did not inspire a quick greenlight.
- Source material today: There are 13 manga volumes out so far, with the most recent hitting shelves in April 2025. So yes, there is material beyond season 1. Whether that is enough for a full second season depends on pacing, but the tank is not empty.
- Where to watch: Season 1 is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
So... is season 2 happening?
Short answer: undecided. No one has confirmed a sequel, and the longer this drags on, the harder it is to be optimistic. The ending placement in season 1 feels like they left the door open, but the tepid response makes a renewal an uphill climb.
Spoilers ahead: how season 1 ends and where the manga heads next
Season 1, episode 12 cuts off at chapter 33. It is not a clean stopping point. Doroka has lost her eyesight, Adonis is still deep in his vengeance era, and then he drops this little character-defining moment:
'Chloe is the only one for me.'
Meanwhile, Yuki wakes up, gets turned into a cyborg, and sets out to hunt Adonis to avenge her brother, Yamato. That thread becomes a big question mark: can she actually get her revenge, or is she outmatched? Adonis is not alone anymore either; he has people around him, which complicates the whole scorched-earth mindset.
Next up in the manga, the story points toward the medical nation of Markpoint and a cutting-edge field called Gear Expansion. It is supposed to be the only way to fix Doroka’s eyes... which is awkward, because Adonis hates that science on principle. Doroka’s stubborn optimism starts to cool his bloodlust a bit, but then a nasty secret at the heart of Markpoint yanks the spotlight. It is a pivot that could make for a strong season 2 arc if the anime ever gets there.
The material is there, the momentum is not
There is enough unresolved plot to justify a second season, but the numbers do not scream 'renew me', and nobody involved has hinted otherwise. If something changes, great. Until then, consider season 2 a big 'maybe' leaning 'probably not'.
Would you stick around for a second season if they announced it, or did season 1 lose you after that initial burst?
