In the age of streaming services, when the media landscape is flooded with dozens of new shows and movies every year, no project seems to achieve "cult" status. After all, it's a tall order when more and more people are watching niche series that don't necessarily have large audiences. But just a few decades ago, things were very different, with several shows at the height of their popularity and boasting the title.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was definitely one of those shows. When it premiered in 1997, the TV adaptation of the 1992 movie of the same name made a big splash, winning over viewers with its intriguing story and lovable characters. As a result, the show ran for a whopping seven seasons and achieved cult status.
Given the popularity of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it is no wonder that fans have been clamoring for a revival of the show since it ended in 2003. For two decades, there have been talks and rumors about bringing the supernatural drama back. Now, one of the show's producers has shed some light on the future of the franchise.
Dolly Parton Has Insider Knowledge About the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot
Surprisingly, the country star was involved in the making of the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. Sandollar Productions, the production company Dolly Parton co-founded with her ex-manager Sandy Gallin, was involved in the production of all seven seasons of the show. And it may well be cooking up a reboot of the series. Things aren't set in stone, however.
'They're still working on that,' Dolly Parton said in a recent interview. 'They're thinking about bringing it back and revamping it.'
At the same time, the country legend didn't give any details about the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival, so it's best not to get too excited just yet.
Dolly Parton's Involvement in the Production of the Show
Admittedly, the singer wasn't the main person on the set, which she rarely visited.
'A lot of my work was done just conversing back and forth with the business people there,' Parton said of her involvement in the cult series. 'I have to give more people more credit on Buffy the Vampire Slayer than me. A lot of people did so much sweat on that. That little show did great.'
Anyway, it's exciting that many years after it ended, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is still piquing the interest of thousands of people who are looking forward to a reboot.
