Fans sure hope so.

Season 5 of Virgin River is fast approaching. We're just hours away from the long-awaited premiere, and fans are on the edge of their seats in anticipation of what's to come for Mel Monroe and Jack Sheridan and the other residents of our beloved small town of Virgin River.

Jack and Mel may be the show's protagonists, but the fates of other characters are currently raising many more questions among viewers. After all, with Mel's baby being Jack's and the wedding on the way, the future of the main couple seems ironclad, which is more than can be said for Preacher and Paige, for example.

Preacher and Paige's story

Preacher and Paige are one of Virgin River's favorite couples. Paige came to town with her son Christopher in Season 1 and soon struck up an unlikely friendship with Preacher, which turned into a cute mingle dance and romantic relationship that delighted the audience.

However, the paradise of the new romance was soon interrupted when Paige's abusive, stalking ex-husband found her and Paige killed him in self-defense. Preacher helped her bury the body, but their relationship was ended by Paige's prompt departure from town.

Christopher, however, stayed with Preacher, and many viewers hoped that Paige would return and reunite with them, rekindling the romance. She did come back to Virgin River in Season 4, but brought new troubles with her. We all remember how Preacher had to knock out her husband's brother Vince in the season finale to save Paige.

Does Paige's return mean the romance will continue?

While their Season 5 arcs will certainly be tainted by the Vince storyline, Paige is back in Virgin River and that means she and Preacher could get back together. Many fans see this as a welcome development since their relationship was ended by tragedy rather than mutual consent, and Preacher is still going out of his way to help Paige out.

'I'd love to see them end up together. He's such a true white knight,' a hopeful fan wrote on Reddit.

However, there is also a huge argument against this relationship. While Paige was gone, Preacher found another love interest, Julia, and even confessed his feelings for her last season.

Perhaps the show could introduce a new love triangle, but some people think it would be unfair to Preacher, who is a good character and deserves a quiet, happy life rather than the constant drama that Paige brings.

What do you think? Should Paige and Preacher end up together?
