There's still no certainty about the series' Season 2, unfortunately.

A CBS police procedural that premiered last fall, East New York is centered around the 74th precinct (located in East New York, naturally) and its new boss, recently promoted to her position — Deputy Inspector Regina Haywood. Portrayed by Amanda Warren, the main character seeks to reform the precinct and introduce real community policing.

As expected, the precinct's old hands are skeptical about Regina's innovative approaches, and criminals aren't willing to sit quietly as she is implementing her reforms — so, naturally, the plot writes itself.

Besides Warren, the CBS show features a pretty solid cast with a number of veteran actors, including Kevin Rankin and Elizabeth Rodriguez. Thanks to their efforts, the first season of East New York enjoyed acclaim from both critics and the audience, as evidenced by their positive comments on the Internet.

However, that popularity doesn't necessarily mean that the series managed to consistently attract enough viewers to justify its renewal — as we know, even seemingly promising series are often cut short when networks' internal data shows them to be underperforming. So, East New York fans are currently awaiting news on CBS' lineup for the next fall with some trepidation.

So far, we cannot tell with certainty whether East New York will return for a second season. Its fate remains in the limbo, with CBS announcing neither renewal nor cancelation. This means that the series gained enough traction for CBS to at least consider its renewal but wasn't popular enough to make that decision a no-brainer.

Right now, all fans can do is keep following the network's news and hope for the best. A renewal appears to be more likely, however, as CBS may be currently in the talks with the showrunners, thus delaying the renewal announcement. But still, either outcome is possible.

And for a fun fact, while the show's 74th precinct itself is fictional, most of the scenes on the show were actually filmed in the East New York neighborhood, where its events are supposed to take place. That's just one of the reasons why this procedural series is especially immersive and has found plenty of fans.
