Will Dr. Glassman Leave The Good Doctor For Good in Season 6 Finale?
Fans are not ready to say goodbye to the beloved character.
Over the last few episodes, The Good Doctor's creators have been toying with fans' emotions through Dr. Aaron Glassman's story arc. Initially, following Shaun Murphy's lead, we all believed his brain cancer was returning.
Just as we learned this was not the case and breathed a sigh of relief, it was revealed that the aftermath of a stroke had impacted some of Glassman's brain functions.
In his sometimes-annoying manner, Shaun uncovered the truth but at a high cost. His neurotypical persistence led to a heartbreaking scene in the operating room when Glassman forgot the next step in a high-risk surgical procedure and was forced to recite the procedure to Dr. Lim in front of everyone. Upon realising his memory had failed, Glassman left the OR an emotional wreck.
Later, he told Lim he was putting down his scalpel for good for the sake of his patients. He confronted Shaun to explain the pain his methods caused and then left the hospital. Now, fans are worried that this was their last glimpse of Glassman. After all, why would he ever return if he can't perform surgery?
Fortunately, with a fatal disease off the table, it is highly unlikely that Aaron Glassman will be leaving The Good Doctor anytime soon. Neither Richard Schiff, who portrays Glassman, nor ABC have made any announcements regarding this matter. Moreover, Schiff recently hinted that he was on the set of the medical drama.
The Season 6 finale is set to feature some compelling storylines, including Lea giving birth and a tragic accident involving Drs. Perez and Kalu. Fans are hoping Glassman will find it in his heart to forgive Shaun and be present for the birth of his first child. As for potential developments in his story arc, fans have an intriguing theory.
Hill Harper, who plays Dr. Andrews, is rumoured to be leaving the show to pursue political ambitions. If these rumours prove true, someone else will need to step into the role of the hospital's president.
Who better than Glassman?
In this capacity, he could remain a major character on the show while transitioning into a part-time consultant role. And since he served as the hospital's president when the show began, it would be a fitting full-circle moment.
