Peaky Blinders is not fading to black after all. Creator Steven Knight is firing up a sequel series, and yes, Cillian Murphy is back on board — this time as an executive producer. New era, new generation, same family problem: the Shelbys cannot stop finding trouble.
What the sequel actually is
Knight has a two-season order for a follow-up set in 1953 Britain, and it is coming as two new six-part, hour-long series commissioned by Netflix and the BBC. BBC One will air it in the UK, and Netflix will carry it globally.
The setup: postwar Birmingham is still scarred from the blitz, and the city is rebuilding in concrete and steel. That reconstruction turns into a vicious power grab — a fight for who gets to own the future of the city — and it plays out on a near-mythic scale. Opportunity and danger are everywhere, and, naturally, the Shelby family sits right in the middle of the mess. The story introduces a new generation of the Birmingham clan, which is an interesting shift — and no, there is still no confirmation that Murphy will return onscreen as Tommy. For now, his role is behind the curtain.
Murphy behind the scenes (and maybe in front?)
Murphy spent six seasons making Tommy Shelby a TV icon, so having him shape the sequel from the EP chair makes sense. He has been flexing those producing muscles lately — he launched his own shingle, Big Things Film, in 2024 and kicked it off with Small Things Like These, where he did double duty as star and producer. He is also attached as an executive producer on the recent 28 Days Later project. The read here is obvious: Murphy is steering his career exactly where he wants it, and having him help guard Peaky Blinders from the inside should keep the sequel’s DNA intact.
Who is making it happen
Steven Knight is writing and overseeing the new chapter, with executive producers alongside Murphy and Knight including Karen Wilson & Martin Haines, Jamie Glazebrook, and Jo McClellan. Overseeing for Netflix are Mona Qureshi and Toby Bentley.
I am thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.

If you have been hearing about a Peaky Blinders continuation on the big screen, the project titled The Immortal Man is being talked up as the thing that picks up where the show left Tommy. Consider me curious — and watching closely for official confirmations.
