Summary

  • Blue Bloods is one of CBS' flagship shows that will end this year.
  • Tom Selleck isn't satisfied with the show's conclusion.
  • Season 14 of Blue Bloods was heavily affected by the 2023 strikes.

This is a tough year for CBS as the network's two flagship series come to an end. After seven seasons on the air, Young Sheldon, one of today's most popular comedies, ends on May 16 with a grand finale that will feature cameos by TBBT's Mayim Bialik and Jim Parsons. Then, CBS' top procedural drama, Blue Bloods, will end its run of fourteen seasons at the end of 2024.

When it premiered in 2010, Blue Bloods quickly became a hit. Set in New York City, the procedural drama follows the Reagan family, a police dynasty whose current patriarch, Frank Reagan, portrayed by Tom Selleck, is the commissioner of the NYPD.

Since its inception, BB has averaged over ten million viewers per season, so it's strange that CBS has decided to cancel it. Needless to say, many fans of the show are hoping that it will return one day. Tom Selleck seems to be one of those hopefuls.

Tom Selleck on Blue Bloods' Conclusion

Apparently, the Blue Bloods star is none too happy about the show's impending end. The actor has led the show since it premiered in 2010, and his character has been the ultimate fan-favorite throughout its fourteen seasons. Tom Selleck isn't upset about the end of BB in general. He just doesn't think it's time for the show to end.

'I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses. We're the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We're winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren't sliding off down a cliff. We're doing good shows, and still holding our place. So, I don't know,' Tom Selleck explained his frustration in a recent interview with CBS News.

With that in mind, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Blue Bloods could return one day.

Blue Bloods' Path to Conclusion

Blue Bloods was one of many shows affected by the 2023 strikes. When the writers' strike began, CBS remained silent about the future of Season 14, which had just been announced a few weeks earlier. However, when the actors' union joined the rally, the network put the fourteenth installment of BB on indefinite hold.

Naturally, when both strikes ended, the hit police procedural was among the first shows to resume production for a February premiere. But the fly in the ointment was that Season 14 was confirmed as final.

Blue Bloods 14 is split into two parts. The first part ends on May 17, with the rest of the season airing from October to December. And just like

Episode 9 of Season 14 will premiere on May 10.
