There is a very logical explanation to that.

Summary

  • Young Sheldon season 7 has been postponed because of the strikes.
  • Episode 6 of the show's second season is the only Halloween episode in the whole series.
  • There's a narrative reason for why there is just one Halloween-themed episode in the show.

As the days go by, getting shorter and darker, we sometimes can't help feeling a little down. Typically, an episode of Young Sheldon, a sitcom adored by countless viewers worldwide, would lift the spirits. Unfortunately, it hasn't returned this fall with its seventh and final season. Along with many other CBS shows, such as NCIS, it has been indefinitely postponed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Given this situation, the only option is to rewatch the previous seasons of Young Sheldon.

Debuting in 2019 when its parent show, The Big Bang Theory, was still airing, the prequel quickly became a hit, producing six seasons since its premiere. As a result, there are plenty of episodes to revisit. However, interestingly, there's only one Halloween-themed episode, which raises the question, why?

The sixth episode of Young Sheldon's second season follows Georgie as he attempts to charm Veronica to get his way with her while Mary organizes a Christian haunted house to boost local teens' morals. Meanwhile, Sheldon goes trick-or-treating dressed as his idol Carl Sagan and gets really bummed out when no one recognizes him.

By shifting focus away from the titular character, the episode served as a precursor to a future major trend - Young Sheldon gradually became less about the young Sheldon and more about his family. The episode in question is still great, so why haven't there been more Halloween-themed episodes?

The Show's Plot Is to Blame for the Scarcity of Halloween Episodes

Perhaps Young Sheldon doesn’t have more Halloween episodes because of Mary. As a devout Christian, Sheldon's mother strongly disapproves of the essence of the holiday, which she believes encourages people to mimic unholy things. As a result, she wasn't particularly fond of her children wearing scary costumes and trick-or-treating, meaning Halloween never played a big role in the Cooper household.

Considering that Young Sheldon is a compilation of Dr. Cooper's childhood memories, it makes sense that he would largely exclude Halloween from his stories. Thus, there's only one episode dedicated to the holiday in the show.

However, it's possible that the writers simply couldn't come up with other compelling Halloween-themed stories for the show, so they decided to ignore them. Both hypotheses make sense, but we like ours better.

Do you think Young Sheldon should have had more Halloween episodes?
