Why We Are Convinced Heartstopper Will End After Season 3
It looks like the show might skip over some key original scenes.
Considering how massive Netflix's Heartstopper became with the release of its second season earlier this year, it was a total no-brainer for the streaming giant to renew the LGBTQ+ romantic comedy for its third outing, which has already begun filming. While the continuation of the Nick and Charlie romance saga won't premiere until 2024, it looks like fans already have some ideas about what it will be about.
Heartstopper is famously based on the series of bestselling graphic novels by Alice Oseman, and so far, the show has been pretty faithful to its predecessor's storylines, occasionally rushing or delaying a scene or two. However, all of that could change in the upcoming season.
A rushed project
With filming for Season 3 already underway, fans have been able to get a lot of information from the paparazzi, and the latest piece of news just sent shockwaves through the community. The thing is, Kit Connor, Yasmin Finney and Corinna Brown were recently spotted filming at the university, confirming that the upcoming season will feature a storyline about the teens' visits to the university.
While this doesn't sound like an interesting piece of news, longtime followers of Oseman's books were quick to notice that this storyline took place in Volume 5 of the novel series, not Volume 4, which was expected to be adapted in the upcoming season.
Fans are concerned
Needless to say, fans are a bit concerned that Oseman and her creative team have decided to rush the project and likely adapt two entire graphic novels in one season. With that in mind, fans are sure that a lot of the great scenes from book four will be glossed over in favor of other storylines from book five, which will make the upcoming installment a pain to sit through.
Moreover, with such a pace, it looks like Heartstopper Season 3 might be the last, as there will be no story to cover beyond it. Let's hope that Oseman knows what she's doing and that fans don't get a train wreck of a season next year.
Still, at least the latest leaks from the set prove that the adorable scene of Nick running after Charlie almost naked will be kept in the show, which makes the fandom feel a little more positive about Season 3.
