Why Superman & Lois Replaced Jordan Elsass with Michael Bishop?
Fans are still not sure why Superman's son role has been recast after two seasons.
The CW's hit series about grown-up Superman living in love with his wife Lois and their children was exactly what fans needed – people were tired of the endless origin stories about the world's most famous superhero, so a series portraying him as a family man was met with huge support.
And thankfully, it worked out perfectly, with both Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch receiving high praise for their performances in the series. But despite the show's continued success, one thing fans are still concerned about after the third season premiere is that Superman's son is no longer played by Jordan Elsass. And here's why.
In a shocking turn of events, The CW announced in August 2022 that beloved actor Jordan Elsass would no longer be playing Jonathan Kent, with young actor Michael Bishop taking over the role.
Fans are clearly confused after this news, with no idea how the series can survive without Elsass, who has been an integral part of the show for the first two seasons. Although the first episode of the third season proved that Bishop is also a talented performer, Elsass' departure from the show has left fans curious.
According to an official statement from The CW, Elsass has left the series of his own volition, rather than being fired as some fans have speculated.
It has come to light that it was for personal reasons, with Elsass himself saying that his decision to leave Superman & Lois was made due to issues with his mental health. He said that the past two years had been very difficult for him, so he made the difficult decision to put his health first, preferring to take a break from acting for the foreseeable future.
While the loss of such a talented actor is certainly heartbreaking for fans, some viewers are urging the fandom to take care of Bishop as the young star has done nothing wrong and is struggling to fill the void that Elsass left behind.
Superman & Lois season 3 episode 2 will arrive on The CW on March 21, 2022.
