Who's Mel's Dad? We Have a Gruesome Prediction for Virgin River Christmas Special
Feel free to hold it against us for this dark theory.
Summary
- Virgin River will be releasing Christmas specials for the first time in the show's history.
- The revelation of Mel's father's identity is the primary reason fans are psyched about the specials.
- Discovering her biological father's identity might not bring Melinda joy.
As days go by and winter approaches, anticipation for Christmas keeps building up. It is a favorite holiday for many, filled with fun and joy. Another factor that adds to its allure is Christmas specials on TV.
While specials aren't as common on American television as in the UK, where almost every major will have dedicated Christmas episodes, this feature isn't completely unknown to US viewers. For instance, Netflix's hit drama series Virgin River will premiere two Christmas specials this year, marking a first in its five-season run.
While fans are naturally excited about the upcoming episodes, their anticipation isn't solely due to the festive theme. Primarily, viewers are eager to uncover the identity of the biological father of the show's central character, Mel Monroe. Yet, despite the festive mood, the answer might be somber.
Another Dead Dad
A few days ago, we mentioned that Virgin River's executive producer confirmed that Melinda's father was indeed from the titular town where the show is based. However, P.S. Smith was understandably tight-lipped about who it might be.
After analyzing the older male characters of Virgin River and considering the show's narrative, we have concluded that Mel's biological father could be Buck Anderson, the late husband of the dearly departed Lilly Anderson, also known as Chloe's mother. While this theory might initially seem far-fetched, we have some good evidence to support this claim.
How Is This Possible?
First, we've never met Buck, as he passed away long before Melinda relocated to Virgin River to restart her life from scratch. Given the limited details about him, he might have had any sort of past, including possibly dating Mel's mother during her time in the town.
Additionally, Mel has always had a strong bond with every Anderson on the show, beginning with Lilly and extending to her daughter Tara, who currently cares for baby Chloe. In this context, it would make a lot of narrative sense to bring them even closer by establishing that Mel, Chloe, and Tara are half-sisters.
Moreover, Melinda's desire for motherhood is evident, yet she seems to have difficulty conceiving. If it's revealed that she's Chloe's elder sister, the writers will be able to let Mel take custody of the baby and thus become a mom.
Well, our theory is going to be confirmed or disproved when the specials are released on Netflix on November 30.
