These horror masterpieces will make you sleep with your lights on.

Who doesn't enjoy a good thrill, wrapped up in a blanket or huddled with friends in front of the big screen? True horror is not just frightening images and sudden screams, but also a creepy atmosphere that will leave you with goosebumps for a long time.

We have selected only the most frightening and shocking horror gems of the last decade.

1. When Evil Lurks, 2023

Two brothers, Pedro and Jimi, find the mutilated body of a man in a remote village. It turns out that he was an exorcist who tried to perform a ritual to drive a demon out of a local man.

The mother of the possessed man is sure that the evil forces will now break out into the real world and capture the rest. The brothers decide to help the woman.

From the story of an unsuccessful act of altruism came one of the most uncomfortable, cruel and unpleasant horror films of modern times, which will most likely become a classic of the genre.

2. The Autopsy of Jane Doe, 2016

A family clan of pathologists – father and son – encounter a very strange case in their practice. They receive the body of a young victim with no apparent cause of death.

The police found her body in a freshly dug shallow grave, presumably at the scene of a murder. The two men are tasked with determining how, when, and from what she died.

As they investigate, they find strange evidence that holds the solution to a terrifying mystery, and understand that something otherworldly is involved in the case.

3. Longlegs, 2024

In a thriller with roots in Jonathan Demme's The Silence of the Lambs and David Fincher's Seven, seemingly fragile FBI agent Lee Harker faces off against a glam rocker. But it's hard to play cat and mouse with a devilry that originated somewhere underground and then infiltrated your family.

Longlegs is woven from a multitude of fears: a surge in devil worship, women as the first targets of maniacs, and outside threats to the family's happiness.

And although Oz Perkins follows the genre's beaten path – internal demons are always more frightening than external ones – he manages to immerse the viewer in a creepy, chthonic world.

4. It Follows, 2014

After having sex with a man from a neighboring town, young Jay begins to suffer from strange visions and the feeling that someone is watching her all the time. It turns out that the man gave Jay the ability to see dead people through sex. Corpses appear out of nowhere, walk slowly and try to attack the victim.

A sticky nightmare slowly envelops you and only lets go in the last minutes. The director transfers all the fears associated with growing up to the screen and clothes phobias in a terrible form.

5. Terrifier 2, 2022

Director Damien Leone was given a tenfold increase in budget and unlimited creative freedom for the production of the second part of the slasher about the creepy clown.

The result was not long in coming – Terrifier 2 triumphantly rolled through the cinemas, the box office exceeded even the wildest expectations, and critics and audiences unanimously included Leone's creation in all the lists of cult films.

Art is resurrected by the will of a sinister entity and returns to Miles County to hunt down and destroy a teenage girl and her younger brother on Halloween night. As the body count mounts, the brother and sister fight to stay alive and uncover the true nature of Art's evil intentions.
