Fans can't get over the beloved character.

When Hallmark premiered When Calls the Heart in 2014, every melodrama lover was smitten with the period show, and the story's central character, Elizabeth, was the biggest reason why.

Fans fell in love with her from the moment she first appeared on screen, as seeing a woman from high society move to a small Canadian frontier town to become a teacher was not only compelling, but heartwarming.

Elizabeth was fearless and strong, which helped fans invest in her story and allowed the show to run for 10 seasons. However, it looks like the writers have decided to betray the audience in the recently released episode by changing Elizabeth's personality in a rather drastic way.

No longer recognizable

Prior to Season 10, the writers used every opportunity to showcase Elizabeth and Lucas' relationship and how comfortable and in love they were. In the current episode, however, their chemistry was suddenly destroyed, even though they had been planning their wedding for quite some time.

Instead of supporting Lucas, Elizabeth began to flirt with Nathan, which really pissed off fans of the original pairing. However, it wasn't until the recently released episode that fans really started to hate Elizabeth.

A drastic personality change

In the last episode, Lucas was enjoying the success of exposing the Governor's evil plan to destroy Hope Valley, and it was revealed that he will try to become Governor himself, leaving the town for four years if he wins.

Fans were very happy for Lucas, but shocked to learn that Elizabeth decided to break up with him over it, as she decided to stay in Hope Valley instead of moving to a bigger city.

Needless to say, it was a striking departure from the Elizabeth of previous seasons, as a fearless woman was basically reduced to a simple-minded person afraid to leave a town to support her loved ones.

Fans were shocked and disappointed by this twist, and argued that they wouldn't watch the show if Lucas actually moved to Capitol City, leaving them to follow only Elizabeth and Nathan.
