When Calls the Heart Creator Confirms the Show Is Far From Over
The melodrama is here to stay.
Although Hallmark is best known for its holiday-themed romantic movies, the network also has many scripted series, and the most popular of them all is When Calls the Heart, a period piece that focuses on Elizabeth, a young woman from high society who is forced to move to the Canadian frontier to teach at the local school.
Thanks to interesting period details and a compelling plot, the show has been going strong for ten seasons straight, and it doesn't look like it's going to end anytime soon.
For a show with so many seasons under its belt, When Calls the Heart looks surprisingly fresh, providing fans with interesting new storylines each and every episode. Of course, not all of the twists and turns are popular with fans, but there's no denying that they all make the show feel more exciting.
A long road ahead
The series has already shown an incredible longevity for a melodrama, and it looks like Hallmark's executives are quite sure that it still has room to grow. Prior to the release of Season 10, it was already renewed for an 11th season, and series executive producer Brian Bird recently shared a promising update for all fans of the romantic saga, assuring people that he has no intention of canceling the show anytime soon.
'I think one of the big reasons that the show is still going strong is all of you. And I believe that long after the show has ended its run – which we hope is many, many seasons from now; we're going to try to catch up with The Simpsons, which is in season 42 or something like that, so you got a ways to go but we're going to try…you will still be here,' Bird said.
Yep, it looks like the producer is trying to turn When Calls the Heart into the ultimate romantic drama, hoping to steal viewers from the likes of Sweet Magnolias and Virgin River and cement his show's legacy for years to come.
Let's hope the ratings don't plummet in the next few years.
