Whatever Happened to Daisy: Scout Taylor-Compton Delivers an Eight-Episode Hunt for a Masked Killer
Scout Taylor-Compton directs Whatever Happened to Daisy, an eight-episode thriller where a masked killer stalks a stacked cast.
Scout Taylor-Compton is stepping behind the camera to direct a masked-killer mystery, and yeah, that makes perfect sense. The actor best known for playing Laurie Strode in Rob Zombie's Halloween and Halloween II has helmed an eight-episode indie series called 'Whatever Happened to Daisy' that mashes glossy suburban drama with slasher heat. Think 'Desperate Housewives' colliding with 'Scream' and you get the vibe.
The setup
This one comes from Owsley Robinson, who wrote, created, and produced the series. The hook: three estranged siblings are forced to figure out who the masked killer is stalking their family's Gilded Age estate, while the women from their late mother's social circle swoop in with their own agendas. It is an independent production, so there is no network or streamer yet, but the team is actively taking it out for distribution now.
The cast
- Christa B. Allen (13 Going on 30, Revenge)
- Elisa Donovan (Clueless, Sabrina the Teenage Witch)
- Cerina Vincent (Cabin Fever)
- Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator, You're Next)
- Anthony Del Negro (Running Point)
- Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier)
- Olivia D'Abo (The Wonder Years)
- Brittany Daniel (White Chicks)
- Justiin Davis (The Boys)
- Tom O'Connell (The Mandalorian)
- Charlene Tilton (Dallas)
Behind the curtain
Robinson also appears in the show and, up to now, has mostly worked as an actor with credits that include Hot House, Engaged to a Psycho, Exploited, Just for Showmance, Hashtag Proposal, and The Engagement Dress.
On the producing side, Anthony Del Negro executive produces along with Shane O'Brien, Zach O'Brien, and Bryan Coyne. A little fun context: Coyne recently worked with Rafael Jordan and James Wan on a treatment for a new take on Creature from the Black Lagoon. That separate project is now moving forward with Sean Tretta writing the screenplay. For Daisy, Ethan Ford and John William Roberts are co-producers, and Andy Patch (Little Bites) shot the series as cinematographer.
A taste from the director
"Filming 'What Ever Happened to Daisy?' was like getting invited to the most glamorous dinner party - only to realize someone's about to be murdered between the second course and dessert. I've never had so much fun playing in a world this twisted, this elegant, and this full of secrets."
Quick note on the title: Taylor-Compton used 'What Ever Happened to Daisy?' in her quote, but the project is being referred to as 'Whatever Happened to Daisy' elsewhere. Same show.
My read
An eight-episode, high-gloss whodunnit with a masked killer and a cast stacked with genre favorites sounds like a very good time. If they land a buyer, I am absolutely watching. Until then, it is in the shopping phase, so expect updates once it finds a home.
