What is Brimsley's First Name? Bridgerton & Queen Charlotte's Fav Name Revealed
We can finally call Brimsley by his full name, but his lover's first name is still a mystery.
Though Brimsley is featured in both seasons of Bridgerton, this loyal and discreet character did not appear in fan discussions until the spin-off of the hit Netflix series became the new Bridgerverse phenomenon.
Suddenly, the Queen's right-hand man was revealed to have a fascinating background and a love arc of his own that could easily rival the stories of the Bridgerton siblings.
The steamy romance between Brimsley and the King's valet Reynolds has become a revelation for many Queen Charlotte viewers. The characters feel well-developed and believable, their story is complicated and somewhat heartbreaking, mirroring the relationship between their masters. However, both Brimsley and Reynolds are missing one thing: the first names.
In the Bridgerton prequel, the footmen are always referred to by their last names, which is definitely meant to emphasize their position as servants at court. Even though they have a lot of influence on the events at the palace, these characters will never be mentioned in the history books, so their names are not that important.
But of course, fans obsessed with the couple and their love arc want to know more — and fortunately, we now have the Queen Charlotte book to give us some answers.
In the novel co-written by Bridgerton series author Julia Quinn and show creator Shonda Rhimes, Brimsley's first name is — wait for it — Bartholomew!
If Bartholomew Brimsley sounds organic, it's because Julia Quinn put a lot of thought into the name. The famed romance author told Insider that she tried to find out if Brimsley, who is the character created just for the show, had a first name — if not in the script, then maybe in some work documentation. It turned out that no one had ever named him, which excited the author.
'I got to give Brimsley a first name. That was really fun,' Quinn said. '[Bartholomew] seemed right.'
Even in the book, Bartholomew is mentioned only once when Reynolds calls his lover by his first name. Quinn said this was done to emphasize the level of intimacy between the two characters. As for Reynolds himself, he wasn't given a first name in either the show or the book. But as a consolation, book readers get more of his backstory and his relationship with the King.
It turns out that Reynolds and George go back many years. The valet was assigned to the Prince as a playmate when they were both just kids, which certainly explains a lot about Reynolds and his loyalty to the King.
