The iconic show might be back… in theory.

Summary

  • The series was revived in 2016, but Netflix hasn't renewed it since.
  • Gilmore Girls may return; it's just that nobody in Hollywood is interested in it at the moment.

Gilmore Girls stands out as one of the defining shows of the early 2000s, running for seven seasons and profoundly impacting the landscape of television dramedies. Despite concluding over a decade ago, the persistent interest of fans in the lives of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore led Netflix to produce a four-part revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, in 2016.

Controversial Ending

While the revival garnered widespread acclaim, Netflix hasn't produced another season since, much to fans' chagrin. The cliffhanger at the end of the revival also left many feeling resentful toward creator Amy Sherman-Palladino for not providing closure after such a long hiatus.

A Year in the Life wrapped up with Rory revealing her pregnancy to her mother. The ambiguity surrounding the father of her child has fueled the anticipation among fans. Yet, as of 2023, there's no indication that Netflix intends to bring back the show.

Bleak Future

At the moment, neither Sherman-Palladino nor Netflix seems interested in expanding upon the Gilmore Girls narrative. There hasn't been any news of the show being picked up for another season since its revival miniseries wrapped up in 2016.

It would appear that both the show's producers and cast might be looking to move on. While actress Lauren Graham hasn't entirely dismissed the idea of another season, she noted that no active discussions are in progress.

'There is not a plan for it. Everyone is doing their own thing. If that came up again, I love that character so much and I love Amy Sherman-Palladino. I will work with her, any time. It would just be a matter of responsibility to the fans and what we could give them that’s deserving of their devotion, or should it just live in reruns. So, I don’t know,' Graham said.

Under the circumstances, it would appear that Gilmore Girls won't be coming back anytime soon, even though nobody's ruling out the possibility.
