What Are the Chances of Claim to Fame Getting Season 3 Renewal?
The reality series has good chances of being renewed.
ABC's reality show Claim to Fame has fairly typical rules: contestants live together, scheming against each other, and get voted out. However, there is one feature that makes the show stand out from the rest and makes it really fascinating to follow — the contestants are relatives of A-list stars, and they have to guess who their rivals on the series are related to.
Season 2 of Claim to Fame has already attracted more viewers, as the intrigues and scheming have become even more ingenious, and the new contestants proved to be really skilled at hiding their identities. Three episodes into the second season, fans are wondering if the show is going to be renewed, waiting for ABC to make an official announcement.
In short, the renewal depends on two major factors: the popularity of the show, which would prove its relevance to ABC, and the lack of competition on the schedule, which is especially true for scripted series.
'I'm sure it will [get renewed]. The fact that they moved it to a prime time slot and bumped The Bachelorette, a long running popular show, back an hour tells me they have big plans for this show,' one fan shared on Reddit.
And it's no wonder, considering that the second season of Claim to Fame has had incredibly high ratings. While the premiere season didn't even reach 2 million viewers per episode in the US, the first three episodes of Season 2 averaged nearly 2.3 million viewers per each, surpassing even Season 20 of the iconic reality show The Bachelorette.
Apparently, that was the reason why ABC decided to move Claim to Fame to the primetime slot at 8 am ET, and The Bachelorette is now airing an hour later. It looks like the producers are in it for the long haul.
Another factor affecting the renewal is, of course, the Writers Guild of America strike that began in early May was joined today by the actors' union (SAG-AFTRA). Without a doubt, this will only exacerbate the long absence of scripted series.
'If anything, if the writers' strike continues, we may get Season 3 earlier to fill in the void of scripted shows,' another fan said.
Reality shows are much cheaper and faster to produce because their participants are not actors, and there's no need to engage the labor of writers. The only problem is that Kevin and Frankie Jonas may not be able to host Claim to Fame because of their SAG-AFTRA affiliation, so ABC will have to deal with that as a matter of urgency.
While we're waiting for official commentary from ABC, be sure to tune in to watch Episode 4 of Claim to Fame Season 2 on July 17.
