It looks like the Duttons are in for a bloody conflict.

The shooting of the second part of Yellowstone Season 5, which to everyone's disappointment will be the final chapter in the story of the Dutton family, has not even begun. First, it was postponed due to the conflict between Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner, and then the WGA and SAG-AFTRA unions went on strike, causing another hiatus.

This suggests that we won't see the finale of today's most fascinating neo-Western drama, so the fans are left to speculate how the Duttons' epic story is going to end. But then again, why not speculate? Even the series' cast is excited (and confused) about where their characters will end up, offering their own ideas for how the Yellowstone finale may play out.

In particular, actor Wes Bentley, who plays Jamie Dutton, shared his thoughts on the show's ending.

Part 1 of the final season has left fans and characters alike in incredible suspense, finishing off on a cliffhanger that suggests the resolution may not be the happiest for the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch residents.

Jamie is on the verge of publicly calling for John's impeachment; John and Beth, though both now wavering for different reasons, are plotting against Jamie. But the most vulnerable position is that of Beth, who has always been fanatically loyal to her family and especially her father, as she just learned that the Duttons have a long-time tradition of getting rid of their ill-wishers 'at the train station' in the outlawed territories.

Obviously, the whole situation cannot possibly end happily for everyone involved. And judging from the intensity of the first part, the escalation in Season 5 Part 2 can be both sudden and utterly brutal.

'We've seen what this show can be and how violent this world can be. I thought it was really amazing to see the restraint [in the first half of] this season from the violence. It was a different kind of intensity than we've had in previous seasons,' actor Wes Bentley said.

Bentley suggests two possible outcomes from the Part 1 build-up. The tension will continue to grow until it leads to a bloody mess, or another form of powerful resolution, which would leave all or some of the characters in tragedy.

'Maybe that's a build-up for some crazy bloodbath at the end, or maybe that tension continues until it explodes in some more compact way,' the actor said.

It may be surprising that the cast doesn't know at this point what their characters' stories lead to. But that's a usual process for Yellowstone: Taylor Sheridan writes the script all by himself and doesn't share it with the team before filming the scenes. He is the one who knows the answers to all the burning questions, and there's no way we'll learn anything definite about the characters' fate before Season 5 Part 2 premieres.
