Weapons Star Josh Brolin Teams With Mission: Impossible Stunt Chief for Explosive Directorial Debut

Fresh off horror hit Weapons, Josh Brolin is set to headline Wade Eastwood’s action comedy debut, vaulting the Mission: Impossible stunt maestro and second-unit ace of Fallout, The Final Reckoning, and Jumanji: The Next Level into the director’s chair.
Josh Brolin is suiting up for an action comedy called 'Mister' from Wade Eastwood, a guy you definitely know even if you do not know you know him. Eastwood has been the stunt and second-unit brain behind a lot of modern set pieces. Now he is stepping up to direct his first feature, with Brolin both starring and producing. Feels like the stunt world-to-director pipeline we keep asking for.
The setup
The movie follows a man who wakes up in a strange house, covered in blood, and slowly pieces together who he actually is while fending off contract killers tied to his past. The attackers are not just faceless goons either — the hit list includes his exes and his best friend. His only way out is teaming with his estranged daughter, who has followed him into the family business. Survival comes with a catch: they have to fix their relationship in the middle of the firefight.

Eastwood on why Brolin
In a Sept. 25 statement, Eastwood could not have been clearer about why Brolin is his guy — and what kind of action movie he is aiming to make.
"Getting the chance to work with Brolin is everything I could have hoped for. His presence and gravitas define Mister and bring the film to life in every way. What excites me most about this project is the depth of the characters and complexity of their relationships, which allows me to build action around story, without ever losing the intensity the genre demands."
That is a very stunt-chief-turned-director mission statement: character first, then blow stuff up accordingly. Inside baseball, but encouraging.
Brolin stays booked
Brolin has been on a tear: Marvel fans know him as Thanos, Dune fans know him as Gurney Halleck. In 2025, he is also in Rian Johnson's third Knives Out movie, 'Wake Up Dead Man', and Edgar Wright's take on 'The Running Man'. Not exactly a slow year.
Release date
No date yet for 'Mister'. When there is one, I will drop it here.
