We Ranked Jessica Lange's AHS Roles, And The Winner Will Surprise You
From Constance to Elsa: Who is the True Fan Favorite?
For many fans, the golden days of American Horror Story (AHS) are closely linked to Jessica Lange. The Oscar-winning actress was undoubtedly the show's highlight, stealing every scene she was in. Unfortunately, Lange only starred in four seasons, playing four characters and reprising her first season role for cameo appearances in the crossover eighth season, Apocalypse.
Needless to say, each of the women Jessica Lange played was a major character and had such depth to them that it is hard for fans to choose their favourite. However, we are ready to rank all four of Jessica Lange's AHS roles:
4. Elsa Mars (Freak Show)
A German-born circus owner with a dark past, Elsa Mars is by far the favourite character among those who loved Season 4 for its freak show theme. Dressed in feathers and glamour, Elsa comes across as a confident and powerful woman who knows what she wants, a leader of her monster tribe. But viewers see how vulnerable and soft she really is when her haunting past and chilling secrets are revealed. Elsa has that unique charm that only Jessica Lange could bring to AHS. And, of course, she sang, which was the season's highlight for many fans.
3. Sister Jude (Asylum)
The one AHS character who probably underwent the most significant transformation is Sister Jude from Season 2. The conservative head nun at Briarcliff Manor went from a sadistic disciplinarian who believed mental illness was the fashionable explanation for sin, to one of the patients she tortured, to a sympathetic, changed woman. The range that Jessica Lange was able to show in one character was nothing short of phenomenal.
2. Constance Langdon (Murder House)
It was after meeting Constance Langdon, the mother who loved all of her children to death that AHS viewers realised they would be glued to their screens for years to come. Her mesmerising presence, witty, gritty dialogue, and complex love for her children made it impossible not to fall in love with the character and the actress who played her. A truly epic comeback! Many fans still consider Constance the best acting ever seen in any AHS season.
1. Fiona Goode (Coven)
Even though AHS Season 3 was not the audience's favourite, Fiona Goode will always have a special place in the hearts of fans. The head of the coven of Salem's descendants is a true icon with her sharp lines, cutthroat attitude, immense power, and truly evil desperation to stay on top. Jessica Lange's performance in this role is a masterclass in skill and talent. Her final scene with her on-screen daughter, Sarah Paulson's Cordelia, was probably one of the most powerful performances in AHS.
