Watson's Dead Villain Might Be Making a Comeback in Season 2

Watson killed off its big bad Moriarty in the Season 1 finale, but if you think that means Randall Park is out of the picture, think again. This is television — death is more of a suggestion than a rule.
Executive producer Craig Sweeny hasn't exactly been subtle about the possibility of bringing Park back in Season 2. When asked if Moriarty could return to haunt Watson (played by Morris Chestnut), Sweeny didn't hesitate:
"I definitely wouldn't rule it out... you'd be a fool to say, I would never allow Randall Park to act in our show. I mean, I would love to see him again."
Translation: Park is dead on paper, but if there's a plot device that allows a ghost, hallucination, flashback, or therapy-induced vision to drag him back in, the writers are going to use it.
According to Sweeny, Moriarty wasn't even supposed to die at first. But as the season evolved, the writers backed themselves into a narrative corner:
- Moriarty had weaponized DNA
- He could replicate what he did to the twins (Adam and Stephens) to "anyone in the world"
- Prison wasn't enough to stop him
So Watson, a doctor sworn to help people, made the call. And yes, he sat with Moriarty as he died. Very ethical.
Sweeny defended the decision, saying it was about "doing the least harm," even if it wrecks Watson's self-image going forward:
"I think he does enter the season with a sense that I might not know myself as well as I thought I did... even though he probably wouldn't do it differently."
Morris Chestnut, for his part, seems all-in on exploring the fallout. In his words:
"Even though it was for a good cause... once you cross the line like that, how does it make you feel? Can you really, really live with yourself? Did you like it? Is it something you want to keep pushing?"
So yes, Season 2 is coming in 2026 on CBS. It will have new plotlines, but don't be shocked if Moriarty pops back in to mess with Watson from beyond the grave — or from inside his head.
Because let's face it: if you've got Randall Park, you don't let a little thing like death get in the way.
