It will definitely not be a disappointment.

Although part 2 of Virgin River's fifth season premiered just a couple of days ago, fans are already looking forward to the next installment. While nothing is yet certain about Season 6, there are a number of things we do know.

Here's what you need to know about Virgin River's sixth installment.

Regular Episode Count

Since its inception in 2019, Virgin River has been a hit Netflix show that shared the streaming service's general programming pattern. Just like many other series, it had ten episodes. This pattern was maintained for seasons 2 and 3. But in Season 4, VR got two more episodes. The situation was a bit different with the current, fifth installment, which has ten regular episodes and two Christmas specials.

In Season 6, however, the showrunners will reportedly take Virgin River back to its roots, as it will only feature ten episodes.

No Specials

Although the Christmas specials are an interesting innovation that's proven quite successful – both episodes have the highest viewer rating on IMDb this season – the creators of Virgin River have no plans to use this feature again. For this reason, there will be no specials in Season 6.

Time Jump

Due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Season 6 hasn't even been written yet, let alone filmed. As a result, the show's writers will have to be creative in their approach to storytelling, especially with the impending time jump. After all, Christmas episodes wouldn't be that special if another season started with a festive episode. As for the specifics, it's not yet clear how much time will pass between seasons.

Likely Spring Start of Filming

As the writers are still working on the script for the sixth installment of Virgin River, it's a bit early to think about filming. Also, since the show is shot in Canada, it's unlikely that filming will start in the winter, meaning that Season 6 of the popular Netflix show won't start shooting until the spring of 2024.

No Goodbyes Yet

Ultimately, those worried that Season 6 will be Virgin River's final one need not worry. The show's EP, Patrick Sean Smith, recently reassured fans that they have no plans to wrap it up just yet.

Plenty of Weddings

Given Mel and Jack's plot-central romance, Doc and Hope's engagement, and Lizzie and Denny's pregnancy and sweet love arc, we can expect a plethora of weddings in Season 6. In other words, there's a lot to be excited about.

Exploration of Mel's Bio Father Arc

Most importantly, Season 6 will explore the future relationship between Melinda and her newfound biological father, who happens to be both a long-time resident of the titular town and a newcomer to the show. Also, given the cliffhanger that ended Season 5, there's no way that the sixth installment won't explore that storyline.
