As fans of Virgin River know all too well, the triangle between Jack Sheridan, Melinda Monroe, and Charmaine Roberts was a source of endless drama and tension throughout the first season.

And while most viewers call her insufferable and immature (rightfully so), maybe it's time to admit that Charmaine didn't really deserve Jack's nonsense?

When her and Jack's connection is first introduced in the show, we learn that they've been in a casual relationship for two years.

But soon after Jack meets Mel, a nurse practitioner who recently moved to Virgin River, he ends things with Charmaine, leaving her heartbroken. Despite her best efforts to reignite their spark, Jack keeps pulling away.

Now, let's talk about Jack and Charmaine's "friends with benefits" situation. From the very start, Jack has been adamant that there's no romantic relationship between them.

Jack also explained to Mel that they had an understanding, as Charmaine initially claimed she wasn't interested in being tied down.

However, that conversation took place a whopping two years ago. It's obvious that after spending so much time together, she developed some real feelings for Jack and perceived their situationship as more than that. Can we blame her?

Although it's true that he had always made it clear that nothing serious would come out of it, what many fans have a problem with is the fact that he continued seeing her, knowing full well that she had deeper feelings for him.

Some viewers are also irked by the way he essentially denies the existence of any relationship with her, and they find it incredibly demeaning.

There's no doubt that Charmaine has her flaws and isn't exactly likable (she did lie about Jack being the father of her twins, after all). However, we can still sympathize with her position, as no one deserves to be treated this way.

It's time for us to stop putting all the blame on Charmaine and start recognizing the pain and frustration she's had to go through due to Jack feeding into her false hopes for his convenience.

The way he treated her in season 1 was disappointing for a lot of viewers, as they felt like he led her on, which isn't what people want to see in a romantic hero. The right thing to do would've been to pay attention to all the hints she had been giving him about wanting a commitment and end things much sooner than that.
