The cult favorite vampire show had a number of huge plot holes.

The CW's The Vampire Diaries is obviously one of the most popular and influential teen shows of the last decade, as the story of a bunch of ancient vampires and witches protecting the world while battling their own complicated feelings for each other rang true for millions of young people around the world.

But while the overarching narrative of the show was perfectly fine and the characters and their interactions were mostly well written, The Vampire Diaries still had a ton of huge plot holes, some of which still bother fans today.

Most of the series' events take place in the town of Mystic Falls, and this is a bit surprising considering how much action and murder was going on in the show, which would be extremely hard to cover up in a small rural town like that.

However, Julie Plec and her team of writers managed to fill in this plot hole by revealing that Mystic Falls' administration was well aware of the vampires and witches running wild in the town and allegedly covering up the mess left behind by supernatural teenagers.

But while the writers were filling that plot hole, they created another one involving Mystic Falls High School, which many of the characters attended in the early seasons of the show.

Needless to say, the school became a battleground for vampires and witches more than a few times, and some of the students, such as Vicki and Sarah, were murdered in cold blood inside Mystic Falls High. While that doesn't sound like a plot hole, the fact that no one in the administration or the school board tried to tighten security after the battles is what really bothers fans.

If the administration knew that the vampires were the real threat, why didn't anyone try to protect the kids attending the high school? Why wasn't the school shut down after so many kids died in it? Sadly, all these questions will remain unanswered because the writers simply forgot to add any kind of realism to the story they have been creating for so long.
