Sharpen your steel: Where Winds Meet arms wanderers of ancient China with seven distinct weapon styles—from swift dual blades to elegant war fans. Master your arsenal and carve a path through foes as you choose the art of war that defines your journey.

If you plan on wandering Ancient China in Where Winds Meet and stacking bodies along the way, you need the right toys. The game gives you seven weapon types, each with its own quirks and unlock paths. Some are obvious picks (swords), some are beautifully weird (yes, umbrellas and fans), and some require a little faction politics. Here is the clean, no-fuss breakdown of what each weapon does and how to get it, minus the fluff.

The weapons, what they do, and how to unlock them

  1. Swords – Versatile, fast, and you can play both offense and defense without overthinking it. If you like playing it safe while still hitting hard, this is the easy pick.
Nameless Sword – Your starter blade. Built for high DPS with quick multi-hit strings and enough mobility to slip out of a crowd when things get dicey. Auto-granted when you begin the game.
Strategic Sword – Less raw damage, more slow-burn. Its whole thing is stacking Bleed to drain health over time, while keeping your movement snappy. Travel to the Strategic Sword Sanctum in the Qinghe Region to nab it.
  2. Dual Blades – Short reach, big hurt. Great for isolating and melting targets one by one; less great when a horde wants your head.
Infernal Twinblades – Rapid attacks, brutal at close range. Not ideal for crowd-clearing unless you position smartly. Join the Midnight Mercy sect or steal them from the Midnight Mercy Sanctum.
  3. Spears – Excellent reach so you can poke safely while still doing solid damage. Spears really shine once you get a feel for spacing and timing, and several have strong AoE or status effects.
Heavenquaker Spear – Applies Bleed to wear enemies down and brings AoE for groups. Join the Raging Tides sect, or pull off a Skill Theft from the Heavenquaker Spear Sanctum master.
Nameless Spear – Automatically added when you start. Arguably the top spear thanks to its synergy with the Nameless Sword and reliable AoE options.
Stormbreaker Spear – The tank spear. Layers shields and reduces incoming damage so you can keep the team alive or bail yourself out of bad situations. Arrives via in-game mail when you hit Level 3.
  4. Mo Blade – Criminally underrated. You will not top damage charts with it, but you will soak hits and keep everyone standing. If you like being the wall, this is your lane.
Thundercry Blade – A defense-first Mo Blade that excels at absorbing punishment, shielding allies, and generally enabling those risky "steals" plays. Unlock it by joining the Well of Heaven sect, or earn it by completing the Oddities - Mystery of Five Tones Encounter Quest.
  5. Rope Dart – Hybrid ranged-melee control with whip-style attacks and slick repositioning. Once it clicks, it feels incredibly fluid.
Mortal Rope Dart – Great for corralling multiple enemies and switching tactics on the fly. Obtain it from the Nine Mortal Ways sect.
  6. Umbrellas – Support, offense, and style points. Not the current meta darlings, but in the right hands they absolutely work. Also: fighting with umbrellas never stops being cool.
Soulshade Umbrella – Built for support. Low damage, high team value thanks to healing. Steal it from the Master at the Soulshade Umbrella Post Station, or join the Hollow Vale sect.
Vernal Umbrella – The offensive variant, focused on ranged pressure instead of healing. You can get it early from Qi Cheng, or by visiting the Temporal Pavilion in Kaifeng.
  7. Fans – One for pure healing, one for high-skill aerial play. Both are niche, both are useful if you commit.
Panacea Fan – The full-on healer. It also scrubs negative effects from allies, which is clutch. Steal it from the Silver Needle Sanctum or join the Silver Needle sect.
Inkwell Fan – High ceiling, high punishment for mistakes. It is all about aerial mobility and precision. Access it through the Inkwell Fan Sanctum.

Quick take: if you want simple, start with swords. If you want reach and status, go spear. If you want to babysit the team and live forever, Mo Blade or Stormbreaker Spear. And if you want to style on people with umbrellas and fans? Be my guest. It is weird, it is wonderful, and it absolutely fits the vibe.
