The most underrated storyline needs some love from the fans.

Even though The CW's The Vampire Diaries has as many haters as fans, there's no denying that this teen vampire show remains one of the best romantic shows to ever appear on television. Supernatural beings and silly fights aside, the show really excelled at creating interesting romantic pairings, and the writers did their best to give the characters some character development to keep things spicy.

And while Elana and Damon stole the spotlight from every other couple thanks to their intense energy, the show's other pairings are actually no worse than the main couple, and some of them are even better.

From friends to lovers

We are, of course, talking about Caroline and Stefan, one of the most divisive romantic couples on the show. They both started their relationship as friends and gradually became lovers over the course of several seasons. However, the moment they became lovers, some of the fans started to hate them, accusing them of showing no passion for each other and being just boring.

However, as the years go by, more and more people are beginning to reconsider Caroline and Stefan as one of the best pairings on the show, and here's why.

A different kind of love

The thing is, everyone loves their TV couples to be sexy and unhinged, because scenes of characters ripping each other's clothes off are just more exciting to watch than two lovers talking dirty before calling it a night. And Caroline and Stefan were definitely not a passionate couple, as their love for each other was caring and thoughtful, not mindless yet sexy like that of Damon and Elena.

And despite the initial outrage, fans came to love Caroline and Stefan for their compassionate and loving love over the years, because it was a stark contrast to the other couples on the show.

They seemed more mature, and people liked them, which helped Caroline and Stefan finally break the barrier of friends becoming lovers for good. Good riddance!
