Tulsa King Star’s Gritty New Crime Thriller Lands Paramount+ Release Date

Paramount+ just planted a flag for Barron's Cove, a grim little abduction thriller led by Tulsa King's Garrett Hedlund. Heads-up: the streamer date is not around the corner, but if you missed its theatrical/VOD run last June, here's the lay of the land.

The setup

Hedlund plays a dad with a violent past who loses his only child and becomes convinced there's a cover-up. In a grief-fueled move, he snatches the teen he believes is responsible — who also happens to be the son of a well-connected local politician — and everything explodes into a media circus and a full-on manhunt. As he gets closer to whatever really happened, he starts to question whether the people chasing him are protecting the kid... or protecting the secrets tied to him.

When you can stream it

Barron's Cove hits Paramount+ on January 1, 2026, and it's exclusive to the service. That's a long runway from its June theatrical/VOD debut. For what it's worth, the film is sitting at 62% on Rotten Tomatoes from 26 reviews.

Why Hedlund signed on

Hedlund told ComingSoon he was drawn to the story because it pushes on how far a parent will go. He read the script when his own son was almost two, and he connected with the idea of a father trying, maybe for the first time, to get everything right for his kid. Late in the script, there's a moment involving an officer that reframed the whole thing for him: beneath the revenge and bravado, his character Caleb is just wrecked by the question of whether he's enough as a father.

How far will you go for your child? How far is too far when you think you are right?

He also doesn't sugarcoat Caleb: this guy has done some messed-up things and carries a ton of guilt. The movie pokes at what that guilt costs, when the pursuit of justice becomes obsession, and what it takes to let go rather than pass the damage down the line.

So yes, come for the thriller hook, stay for the messy dad questions. Barron's Cove lands on Paramount+ January 1, 2026.
