Troll 3 On Netflix: When It Drops And What The Post-Credits Scene Sets Up
Troll 2 has landed on Netflix, igniting sequel buzz. There’s no official word on Troll 3 yet, but a post-credits tease suggests this franchise is just getting started.
With Troll 2 now on Netflix, the obvious question popped up: is Troll 3 happening? Officially, no. Nobody has announced a threequel or a date. Unofficially, the movie practically waves a flag that says: we have more stories if Netflix wants them.
The post-credit stinger, in plain English
After the main story wraps and the credits start, there’s a quick extra scene. Professor Møller pops up on a secure line, talking to a General, and we see what he has tucked away: a tiny troll in a glass box. He mentions that the specimen he rescued has developed. Translation: a piece of troll DNA survived the whole Mega Troll takedown and has basically turned into a baby troll. It’s a classic monster-franchise move — not a guarantee of a sequel, but a clean open door.
"I have great news, General. The specimen I was able to save has developed."
What that sets up next
- By preserving a troll sample, the film makes it clear the mythology isn’t over. Even if humans think the trolls were wiped out after the first film’s massacre, they could be regrouping in secret — or multiplying.
- The surviving troll we already know — the Mountain King’s son, nicknamed Beautiful by Nora — has been living quietly among humans. That truce feels fragile. It would not take much (another troll’s influence, or people being people) to blow it up.
Is Troll 3 actually happening?
There’s no greenlight, at least publicly. But director Roar Uthaug keeps nudging the door open. He told GamesRadar+ that he wasn’t planning a sequel at first, then ideas started popping while he was editing the original. When pressed about a third film, he said he has ideas — and smiled — and later told TechRadar he doesn’t see a ceiling on how big this Trollverse could be. He’s also said more trolls excite him, which sure sounds like a potential threequel with an expanded roster, maybe even a full-on troll family.
Bottom line: no announcement, no date, but the creatives are game and the story was left deliberately unfinished. If Netflix wants it, there’s plenty on the table.
Where to watch
Troll and Troll 2 are both streaming now on Netflix.
