Top 7 Rom-Coms to Watch This Valentine's, Ranked by Kelly Clarkson
Their IMDb scores prove these movies are worth watching.
As Valentine's Day approaches, many people (especially us singles) are looking for some romantic relief. Here are seven movies on Kelly Clarkson's festive watch list.
7. Sweet Home Alabama (2002, 6.2)
This early 2000s romcom is a favorite of the What Doesn't Kill You singer for a number of reasons. First and foremost, the story, set in the South, is too cozy not to fall for. And then the star-studded cast, led by the wonderful Reese Witherspoon, Josh Lucas and Patrick Dempsey, is another big factor. While it's not Clarkson's top choice, she says she watches it every time it's on.
6. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999, 7.3)
Kelly Clarkson hasn't seen this movie as many times as the others on this list, but she still likes it. The turmoil of a teenage romance that the movie revolves around is electrifying. Plus, the music in the movie gives it a rebellious, master-of-the-world vibe.
5. My Best Friend's Wedding (1997, 6.3)
Although the premise of the series is pretty dubious, the movie has the added bonus of Julia Roberts and Rupert Everett playing the leads. It also has one of the best soundtracks of all time - Diana King's rendition of the classic I Say a Little Prayer for You is much appreciated by Kelly Clarkson.
4. Sleepless in Seattle (1993, 6.8)
This movie is beloved by Clarkson for its portrayal of growing up in a single-parent household. The scene of young Jonah Baldwin dialing the phone still resonates with the singer. The film also references the absolute classic of romance films, An Affair to Remember, which gives it a bonus point in Kelly's eyes.
3. It's Complicated (2009, 6.5)
Despite her own enormous fame, Kelly Clarkson can't help but fangirl over the cast of this romcom. Meryl Streep, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin deliver a magical performance together as their characters get caught up in an exciting love triangle. Interestingly, the singer recreated one of the scenes from the movie, where Meryl Streep asks her therapist what to do, in her own life.
2. The Proposal (2009, 6.7)
One of Kelly Clarkson's favorites, this rom-com has both an exciting and heartwarming story and a star-studded cast, led by Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds and the legendary Betty White. It's quirky, hilarious, and visually stunning, even though it was made before the era of diversity.
1. You've Got Mail (1998, 6.7)
Admittedly, Kelly Clarkson has seen this movie more than anyone else in the world - she's such a huge fan. The chemistry between Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, who play the main characters, is palpable, and the movie itself has a warm, good-old-days vibe that makes it a No. 1 romcom.
