Although Young Sheldon is a comedy full of brilliant one-liners and funny situations, it makes us feel all kinds of emotions. Annoyance is definitely one of them, and remarkably, it is only evoked by a few characters on the show.

Here are five of the most annoying.

Pastor Jeff (Matt Hobby)

Well, few would argue that Pastor Jeff is a sympathetic character. He's a pretentious and prudish hypocrite whose eccentricities drive the audience up the wall. He's ignorant yet entitled, which puts him at constant odds with Sheldon. And since the little boy is always able to defeat Pastor Jeff and his arguments with his logic, the man resorts to using his authority to suppress the title character, which comes across as utterly pathetic.

Dr. Linkletter (Ed Begley Jr.)

While this man plays a very important role in the story, bringing Sheldon down to earth every once in a while, he is still riddled with numerous flaws. Dr. Linkletter is insensitive and grouchy. Most importantly, he's sleazy when it comes to Meemaw, whom he continues to woo, if not harass, despite her stated lack of interest in him – even the fact that she was dating his colleague didn't stop his cringeworthy attempts.

Gene Lundy (Jason Alexander)

Sheldon's self-centered drama teacher seems to lack every redeeming quality. He's mendacious and manipulative, which makes it hard to believe he was allowed to work with children. Furthermore, his greed for fame and money makes him despicable – think of him stealing the cowboy workout idea. In the end, the show is much better off without this character.

Dale Ballard (Craig T. Nelson)

This character has close ties to the Coopers. First of all, he's Meemaw's on-again, off-again boyfriend. Then he's Georgie's boss. And finally, he is Missy's baseball coach. But despite being essential to the plot, Dale fails to connect with the audience. After all, he's seen as grumpy, pig-headed, and easily irascible. And these qualities lead him to behave ugly towards Meemaw, Missy and Georgie on numerous occasions.

Paige Swanson (McKenna Grace)

Intended to be Sheldon's shadow, more adept at social interactions, Paige's character quickly became the embodiment of a troubled teenager whose antics startle even the most patient person. Given her genius and social skills, it's obvious that Paige's problems are self-inflicted. Naturally, viewers can't help but wonder why. But more importantly, this behavior robs the character of any sympathy from fans.
