One actor had to give Mission Impossible a pass.

Tom Cruise is undeniably one of Hollywood's most sought-after actors today, famous for exceptional films and insanely dangerous stunts that have earned him immense respect among his colleagues. With one of the most profitable and popular blockbuster franchises, Mission Impossible, relying exclusively on Cruise as its star and producer, it's unsurprising that many actors aspire to make friends with Cruise in hopes of joining Mission Impossible.

However, even though the cast of the latest Mission Impossible 7 consisted almost exclusively of big names, the impressive lineup could have been even more stellar had one particular actor not declined to appear in the blockbuster.

It was recently disclosed that actor Nicholas Hoult had auditioned for Top Gun: Maverick but failed to outperform the competition. However, it seems that the young actor's audition made a good impression on Cruise, as he then personally invited Hoult to play a big role in Mission Impossible 7. Despite being incredibly honoured by the offer, Hoult had to turn it down.

According to Hoult himself, he was already contractually committed to filming the third season of Hulu's The Great, so he had no choice but to say no when Cruise invited him to join the Mission Impossible cast, even though it would have been a huge boost to his career. Understandably, Hoult was devastated, but Esai Morales should certainly express his gratitude to Hoult, as he only got his role in Mission Impossible after Hoult opted out.

To make matters worse, Hoult has recently been labelled one of the most unfortunate actors in Hollywood, missing out on roles not only in Maverick and MI7 but also in several other major blockbusters.

First, Hoult was reportedly considered by Matt Reeves as a potential choice to play Batman, only to lose out to Robert Pattinson. More recently, it was disclosed that James Gunn chose to cast David Corenswet as Superman in the upcoming Superman: Legacy after seriously considering Hoult for the role.

We just have to hope Hoult doesn't stop trying to get new roles after these disappointing setbacks.
