Todd Howard Reads Reddit, and Bethesda Is Working on What Fans Want
After a year of clamoring for either a real update on the next Fallout or remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, fans may finally be in luck—Bethesda looks ready to move. Fresh signals are stoking hopes for both the future and a return to the classics.
Bethesda knows exactly what Fallout fans are yelling about: either give us real news on the next main game, or finally remaster Fallout 3 or New Vegas. Todd Howard just made it pretty clear he hears all of it, and yes, Reddit is absolutely on his radar.
Todd Howard reads your posts (and says they help)
While out promoting Fallout Season 2, Howard told GameCentral he genuinely keeps tabs on fan chatter, especially on Reddit. He says the team sticks to its own creative plan, but seeing which ideas fans latch onto can nudge Bethesda to push harder in those same directions. And right now, he is keeping a close eye on how people react to the TV show and what that could mean for the games.
"Hey, we read it all. Just know we are working on even more. We are looking forward to the day when we can share that with everybody."
The TV side is moving fast: Season 2 is on the way, with Howard teasing "a lot of surprises." He also admitted he enjoys watching the conversation roll out week by week as episodes land. On the games side, he reiterated the message during this year’s Fallout Day broadcast. In a pre-recorded segment, he acknowledged fans were bummed there was no new game reveal, joked he was probably watching himself from his desk, and noted the live chat was flooded with people asking for "that thing you want and this other thing you want." Translation: they saw the requests, even if they were not announcing anything that day.
So what is actually in the works?
Howard has laid out the priorities pretty clearly this year. The Elder Scrolls 6 is still the next major Bethesda Game Studios release, and by his own description it is "still a long way off." Meanwhile, he says Bethesda has "hundreds of people on Fallout right now, with 76 and some other things we’re doing." If you have been wondering whether those "other things" include remasters, a VGC report says one of them is a Fallout 3 remaster. That rumor has been around since the 2023 Microsoft leak that listed both a Fallout 3 remaster and an Oblivion remaster; with Oblivion’s updated release now out, a lot of fans think Fallout 3 is up next.
The catch: Howard will not rush Fallout 5. He keeps stressing that mainline entries need to feel substantial, even if that means waiting. He also knows people miss the series and are expecting remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas. That mix of silence and pointed "be patient" comments has only made the fan radar light up more.
Where things stand right now
- Todd Howard is actively reading Reddit and says fan consensus can reinforce Bethesda’s own plans.
- Fallout Season 2 is coming, and he is teasing "a lot of surprises" while watching weekly reactions.
- During Fallout Day 2025, he acknowledged disappointment over no new game reveal and called out the flood of requests in chat.
- The Elder Scrolls 6 remains the next big BGS game and is "still a long way off."
- Bethesda currently has "hundreds of people on Fallout," including Fallout 76 and "some other things."
- VGC reports a Fallout 3 remaster is in the pipeline; that tracks with the 2023 Microsoft leak that also named an Oblivion remaster, which has since been released.
- Fallout 5 will not be fast-tracked; Bethesda wants mainline entries to feel meaningful.
My read: nothing to announce right this second, but the tea leaves are not subtle. If Oblivion’s remaster already made it out the door and Howard keeps winking about "other things" on Fallout, it is hard not to think a Fallout 3 remaster is circling the runway. As for Fallout 5, settle in. Bethesda will take its time there.
