Three Years After Henry Cavill's Last Flight as Superman, Is Netflix About to Revive the Snyderverse?

Three years after Henry Cavill’s shock Superman cameo in Black Adam reignited hopes of a comeback, James Gunn’s DCU reset seemed to slam the door shut — but that fleeting post-credits moment is suddenly back in the spotlight.
Remember that last-second Henry Cavill Superman cameo in Black Adam that had everyone convinced we were getting a proper Cavill comeback? That hope died when James Gunn took over and hit reset on DC. And yet, here we are: that tiny moment is back in the discourse thanks to one very well-timed post from Netflix France. The timing is... interesting.
Why Cavill vs. Black Adam is trending (again)
Netflix's official France account posted a clip of Cavill's Superman facing off with Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam on Oct 20, 2025, tossing out a simple prompt:
'1 vs 1, qui gagne?'
That little throwdown teaser blew up fast, partly because a lot of folks are still waving the '#RestoreTheSnyderVerse' flag. The wistful energy is real. Three years ago, Cavill's surprise Black Adam tag (basically a glorified hello) reignited hopes he'd stick around as the Man of Steel. Then came the Gunn reboot, and those plans evaporated.
So... is Netflix hinting at anything?
Short answer: probably not. This came from Netflix France, pushing Black Adam now streaming on that service over there. It reads like a local promo, not a top-down corporate signal. But the post landed right as a much bigger story hit, which is why it feels spicier than it likely is.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Discovery might be for sale
Reports out of the BBC say Warner Bros. Discovery — the home of HBO, CNN, and DC Studios — is exploring a sale. CEO David Zaslav says the board is weighing options to boost the company's value after a rough few years post-merger. When the news broke, the stock popped roughly 11%, which tells you investors are at least curious.
Potential suitors reportedly include heavyweights like Paramount/Skydance, and maybe even Netflix or Comcast. WBD has already turned down an offer from Paramount priced at $24 per share, opting to see what else comes in before deciding. Big picture: the WarnerMedia-Discovery mashup left the company with a mountain of debt, linear TV is shrinking, streaming is a knife fight, and a sale could be a clean reset.
Could Netflix revive the Snyderverse with Cavill?
This is where the dream meets the spreadsheet. Fans see the Netflix France post, see the sale chatter, and start connecting dots. Tempting. But even if Netflix ended up owning WBD, reviving Zack Snyder's DC timeline still feels like a long shot. James Gunn is already deep into a full reboot, with David Corenswet suited up as the new Superman. Unless Gunn's DCU implodes (and that would take time to even assess), a new owner would be unlikely to bulldoze the current plan.
On top of that, Snyder has moved on to his own projects, including The Last Photograph. Never say never in this business, but as of now, a Snyderverse return under Netflix belongs in the 'fun to imagine' column.

Bottom line
Netflix France fanned an old flame at the perfect moment, right as WBD's future is in play. It makes for great speculation, but don't read it as a Snyderverse rescue mission. Not yet, anyway.
