Thought Dahmer Was Creepy? Monster Season 2 Will Focus on Two Killers Instead of Just One
Who said less is more?
Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was one of the more compelling shows of 2022. Netflix has a habit of gearing some of its most prized content toward serial killers or other twisted murder stories yet Dahmer took things to a whole new level.
The series was a smash sensation for Netflix and has quickly garnered much hype regarding season two. The good news? It appears that Netflix is doubling down on its initial gamble, highlighting not one but two killers in season 2.
Undoubtedly, this is fantastic news for those that want more blood and gore. Monster creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan have a ton of work to do if they seek to meet the expectations and excitement that is sure to ensue. Here’s what we know regarding the next season of Monster:
Monster Season 2 Focus on Menendez Brothers
In 1989, brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez committed what seemed like an unspeakable crime - they murdered their parents in cold blood. The killings soon became high-profile and received nationwide attention in an era that was prior to 24/7 news coverage.
Initially, the brothers were not suspected, however, that eventually changed and in 1996 they were charged with the murders. Thus, the fascination with the killers remains evident to this date.
It makes sense that the showrunners of Monster want to dive into the psyche of these two brothers regarding the upcoming season two of the popular Netflix series. Dahmer was one of the most twisted serial murders the world has ever known. However, the Menendez brothers rank next to Dahmer in terms of being cold-hearted killers.
Menendez Brothers Claimed Innocence
Despite not initially believed to have committed the crimes, during the defense trials Menendez brothers insisted they only killed their parents out of self-defense. According to Erik and Lyle, the two had suffered a lifetime of abuse from their parents, thus provoking them to commit the transgression.
The Menendez brothers were tried separately and both cases forced the juries to question the motives. Consequently, the juries were deadlocked, and both cases resulted in mistrials. However, a second round of trials would prove a much different outcome.
Menendez Brothers Once Again Kings of TV
Interestingly, more than 25 years after the Menendez brothers first made Court TV a must-see, Netflix is also hoping to capitalize on the attention the trials brought to the public in the late '90s.
Monster season 2 is expected to arrive on the streaming platform later this year. It will have the difficult task of meeting the high standards established by season one, which is the second most popular English-language TV show of all time on Netflix (only behind Stranger Things season 4).
