Teen Wolf? Rather Chroma-key Wolf!

Teen Wolf is the teen drama of the 2010s that ushered in the Tumblr era and spawned countless memes. The show became very popular with its target audience, who loved its well-written script, relatable characters, and horror-esque atmosphere that offered a great alternative to Supernatural.

In its seven years of existence, Teen Wolf had acquired the status of an iconic teen show, and many remember it fondly to this day.

But behind the great script and appealing characters, there are details we either didn't notice or have forgotten over the years. And these are the moments that don't necessarily spoil our sweet memories — rather, they fall into the 'so bad it's actually good' category!

Based on the 1985 film of the same name, MTV's Teen Wolf came out 25 years later, and it sometimes feels like the show's special effects are on the same level as in the original movie, or perhaps more in line with the 90s computer graphics.

Fans recently brought up this issue on Reddit, and it seems like they found the cheesiest CGI moment in the whole show. The scene features Scott and Kira, and the background graphics in it looks like it's straight out of a 90s movie!

This is the scene from Season 5's episode 'Codominance.' Kira Yukimura travels to New Mexico to train with the Skinwalker Trio and learn how to control her Kitsune. And while the graphics in the action scenes leave one scratching their heads, the best example of poorly handled CGI is in the way characters were superimposed on the pre-filmed background.

'Like damn, they couldn't find some dusty rock hills anywhere?' one Redditor said, implying that the crew didn't actually have to go to New Mexico, as they could find a suitable location in California. But for some inexplicable reason, they decided to shoot the scene on the green screen.

Funny enough, fans living in New Mexico say there are no such locations there — so that background doesn't look natural at all:

'I've been all over New Mexico and lived here my whole life and can confirm nowhere in New Mexico looks like this, lmfao,' another fan pointed out.

By the way, many people noticed that this scene is surprisingly reminiscent of some of the scenes from the sci-fi series Roswell. Did the filmmakers use the same background footage in both productions? Perhaps, but another possible explanation is that both sequences were filmed in Southern California, so the landscapes are pretty similar.

But even though Teen Wolf's CGI is notoriously low-quality, this seems to be one aspect that adds more charm to the beloved show. The graphics may be silly and ugly, but these cheesy scenes don't annoy fans too much, as they simply make the show hilarious and give viewers a chance to smile at just how bad they are.
